A Day in the Life of a Ski Resort Worker: What Nobody Really Tells You

jobs in ski resorts Europe-jobs with accommodation included - work and travel programs

If you’ve been scrolling through TikTok or Instagram, you’ve probably seen the dream: fresh snow, blue skies, mountain cafés and after skiing atmosphere (après-ski).

And honestly? Those moments are real.

But they’re only one part of the story.

At Roast Jobs, we’ve helped hundreds of people start their winter season abroad. One thing we hear again and again is:

“I wish I’d known what to expect before I arrived.”

So, here’s a real look at what a normal day working in the Alps can be like.

The first thing to know is this: hospitality is all about being flexible. Your shift might change, a colleague might call in sick, or the hotel might suddenly get very busy. Every day is different, and learning to adapt is one of the biggest lessons you’ll take home.

And remember, this is just one example. Depending on your job, you could work mornings, afternoons or evenings.

  1. Starting the Day

You wake up, open the curtains and, if you’re lucky, see fresh snow outside.

You have breakfast with your housemates. They could be from Portugal, Brazil, Italy, France, Australia… or almost anywhere in the world. Before you even start work, you’re already meeting new people and learning about different cultures.

You grab a coffee, put on your uniform and head to work.

The mountain views quickly become part of your daily life, but somehow they never stop amazing you.

  1. When the Hotel Gets Busy

One thing surprises almost everyone:

No two days are the same.

Maybe breakfast is much busier than expected.

Maybe reception suddenly fills with guests.

Maybe one of your teammates needs help.

That’s hospitality.

Everyone works together, and plans can change at any time.

Our best advice? The people who enjoy the season the most are not always the ones with the most experience. They are the people who stay positive, stay flexible and enjoy working as a team.

3. Peak Season Gets Busy

Christmas, New Year and February are the busiest times of the season.

You’ll spend most of the day on your feet, helping guests, solving small problems and supporting your team.

Some days you’ll hardly have time to sit down.

Yes, it can be hard work.

But it can also be a lot of fun.

At the end of the day, you’ll probably surprise yourself with how much you’ve learned and how much you can do.

4. You’ll Learn More Than You Think

Working in a ski resort teaches you much more than hospitality.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Stay calm under pressure.
  • Work with people from different countries.
  • Give great customer service.
  • Communicate with confidence.
  • Adapt when plans change.
  • Work well in a team.

These are skills that will help you in any future job.

5. You’re Working Where People Go on Holiday

While it’s your workplace, it’s someone else’s dream holiday.

Every day you’ll meet people from all over the world.

You’ll hear different languages.

You’ll discover new cultures.

Some guests will remember you because you helped make their holiday special.

Some colleagues will become friends for life.

And yes… depending on your role, good service can also mean receiving some very nice tips. 😊

6. Making the Most of Your Free Time

When your shift finishes, it’s your time.

You could:

  • Go skiing or snowboarding.
  • Explore a nearby village.
  • Meet friends for a hot chocolate.
  • Relax at home and get some rest.

Not every day has to be full of activities.

Sometimes, after a busy shift, relaxing is exactly what you need.

The best part is that everyone creates their own experience. There is no right or wrong way to enjoy your season.

7. It Could Be the Best Winter of Your Life

Your experience depends a lot on your attitude.

If you expect to ski every day, you might be disappointed.

But if you want to grow, become more independent and meet amazing people, a winter season can be one of the best experiences of your life.

You’ll go home more confident, more independent and with memories you’ll never forget.

Perché candidarsi ora?

Here’s something many people don’t know:

Most ski resorts and hotels in the Alps start hiring from August.

If you wait until October or November, you’ll still find jobs, but you’ll have fewer hotels, locations and positions to choose from.

So, if you’re thinking about working abroad this winter, now is the best time to apply.

At Roast Jobs, we help you find winter jobs with accommodation in the Alps. We’ll help you prepare your CV, get ready for interviews and support you before and during your season abroad.

You take the first step. We’ll help you with the rest.

Ready for Your Own Winter Season?

If that sounds like your kind of adventure, don’t wait too long.

Winter recruitment has already started, and employers are hiring now.

Your next winter could be the start of an unforgettable adventure.
